Healthy and cheap after school snacks are an absolute must in our house. Even though the kids eat so many times throughout the day, those after school snacks are necessary for them!
Snacks that are high in protein and carbs are great since it gives them fuel to do their homework and play outside with friends! Here’s a round up of 10 of my favorite snacks!
The classic gets an upgrade here. I love the fact that you can set up small bowls filled with toppings and cut up fruits and veggies and let your kids make their own creations!
Hummus is one of my favorite dips and it’s super high in protein, which is awesome. But some of the pre-packaged ones you find at the store can be pricey. Making it at home is incredibly simple and much more cost effective.
One of my favorite childhood snacks! Although this does take a bit of (hands off) time to make, it will save money in the long run. I think you can try it out with frozen berries too (which tend to be cheaper when out of season), just make sure you defrost, drain then blend.
So cute! I don’t USUALLY have time to create animals out of my snacks, but this is definitely easy and absolutely brings a smile to the kids’ faces. If you took advantage of that Nutella deal at Costco, you probably still have some left to use!
These remind me of a mash of crepes AND quesadillas, ha! Change it up with the ingredients (Nutella and bananas, peanut butter and bananas, chocolate sauce and strawberries etc) and you’ll be able to make a variety of snacks for the kids when they get home!
The name is a little funny, but chocolate covered bananas are not! For those whose kids are chocolate fiends, this is a great way to get that nutrition in from the bananas!
Super yummy! Raspberries do get pricey at times, but if you’re able to find them on sale or at your local farmer’s market during their peak season, they’re a great treat!
For those who want to avoid extra sugar, these muffins are easy, delicious and fast to make! You can try making them in a mini-muffin pan too for a more finger food snack.
I always think that buying pre-made trail mix is such a rip off! It’s easy enough to buy these ingredients in bulk and make trail mix specifically for your taste!
These are so yummy and easy to make! Apple chips at the store tend to be fried or expensive and I’d rather know exactly what was going on mine (add cinnamon for a bit of spice!).
