HI 🙂 I am new at this couponing thing and I am so confused. Why do multiple transactions? And I get the Sunday paper…is this enough? I dont understand how you can purchase multiple items of the same item to save money. Sorry I am so confused! 🙁 Thanks 🙂

    • I did multiple transactions to minimize my out of pocket cost. If I had bought everything in one transaction, I would have paid more. Granted, I would have a lot of ECBs to use next time but I preferred the lower out of pocket.

By purchasing multiple items now, when they are priced really low, it builds a stockpile so that I don’t have to pay full price after running out.

  2. WENT TO CVS AND PURCHASED 4 QUARTS OF SIMILAC INFANT FORMULA @ $5.00 EACH , 3 CARMEX LIP BALMS @ $0.99 EACH, 18 PACKAGES OF CVS BRAND HONEY-LEMON COUGH DROPS @ $0.12 EACH, 1 GARNIER HERBASHINE HAIRCOLOR $0.00 AND 4 FUN SIZE PACKAGES OF M&M CANDIES ALL FOR ….. ARE YOU READY FOR THIS! A WHOPPING $1.78 AND THATS NOT ALL I RECEIVED $14.00 BACK IN ECB’S. I USED $5/4 SIMILAC PAYING $0.10 EACH OUT-OF-POCKET. FREE HERBASHINE COUPON @$7.99. $1 /4 M&M CANDIES AND 1 $2.00 ECB. OF COURSE THERE WERE MULTIPLE TRANSACTIONS AND I AM NOT EXACTLY SURE HOW I DID BUT QUITE PLEASED WHEN I LEFT THE STORE. I DO KNOW THAT THE MANAGER HAD TO CORRECT A MISTAKE THAT THE SALES CLERK MADE BY REFUNDING MY PURCHASE ON A GIFT CARD TOTALING $24.19 AND I PURCHASED IT ALL BACK FOR $0.00 WHILE EARNING $4.00 ECB(USED) FOR CANDY AND $10.00 ECB(UNUSED) FOR INFANT FORMULA.

  3. I’m new to couponing and still practicing at Walgreens. I’m scared to ask to split my transactions…are the cashiers usually okay with this? I keep going to two different stores to split my transactions…time consuming and silly! Also, a question for you. Right now, when you buy Hyland’s cough medicine, it is 4.99 and you get $5 register rewards. Am I allowed to buy multiples of these free items in different transactions to get multiple rewards? Thanks…this is a great blog!

    • Hi April! Yes, most stores are okay with this! I usually checkout at the beauty counter as it’s usually less busy. I always ask something like “is it okay if I do separate transactions?” Most don’t care. If someone gets in line behind me, I finish up the transaction I’m doing then move to the back of the line and wait to do my next transaction.

For the Hyland’s, you can buy multiples but it will be a little tricky. You can only buy 1 per transaction – if you buy 2 at once, you will only get 1 reward. Also, you cannot use the $5 reward you earn to pay for another Hyland’s – Register Rewards cannot be used on the same product or you won’t get another coupon. You will have to do like I did with the Tom’s. I bought 1, used the RR to pay for a DIFFERENT item that earned a RR, then used that RR to buy another Tom’s.
