Daily Frugal Tip: Use Up Day-Old Hot Dog Buns
Reader Cheryl e-mailed in another great frugal idea for French Toast Sticks:
“You can also use day old hot dog buns to make these. Split the bun in half and then cut the halves in half. You have 4 pieces of bun. Dip in the egg mixture and cook. Voila – French Toast Sticks!”

Sometimes I use day-old hot dog buns to make garlic bread. Split the buns in half, then spread a mixture of spreadable butter/margarine, garlic powder, and dried parsley on the surface of the buns. Bake at 350 F oven for a few minutes (I usually check it after about 4-5 minutes), until the buttered surface is not “soggy”. You can also put a little bit of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the butter mixture — the cheese will melt in the oven to make cheesy garlic bread. Yum! 🙂
