Affordable International Travel Destinations

I’m sure most people are like me and would like to travel a lot more. Life-changing journeys, historical artifacts, we all want to be able to see these in our lifetime.

Unfortunately, traveling can be extremely expensive. Getting there can be a pretty big expense, and once you get to your destination your expenses continue to add up.

To help, I’ve compiled a list of places you can travel to that won’t break the bank. There are many places that are very affordable to where you may even be able to stay under $40/day for basic accommodation, transportation and 3 meals (airfare not included).

1. Indonesia. Indonesia can be very expensive or it can be very cheap. Try to stay within one or two regions or use local transportation to cut costs. Food and drinks are pretty cheap and delicious. Think about staying at a hostel, as most provide breakfast which cuts down on your food cost.
2. Nepal. Believe it or not Nepal is a very cheap country to travel to. Food, accommodation, and transport are all inexpensive if you use local options. You can get cheap and delicious home cooked meals in most local-run small cafes.
3. India. Probably the cheapest country to travel to if you like looking for deals. The southern region has some gorgeous beaches and if you are willing to haggle your prices most restaurants and guesthouses will accept your offers for much less than you would pay online.
4. Greece. This is on my bucket list to go to, but it’s important to be mindful of the season in which you go. July and August are the hottest and busiest times of the year for Greece. Save money by renting a house instead of staying in a hotel. That way you’ll also be able to save on dining by buying fresh produce from the markets and making your own meals.
5. Croatia.Traveling to Croatia you want to keep the same similar ideas as Greece. Avoid July and August as they are the busiest months. If you wish to travel to different islands, it’s more cost effective to go in groups so you can minimize the amount of transfers.

If you set a budget and stick to it, there are so many more locations that could be added to this list. It’s all in the planning! Some general tips are to take advantage of hostels, use local transportation, and when in doubt, ask locals for any deals.
