“Eggs in a Nest” is currently my favorite breakfast food. The thought of it will get me out of bed in the morning. I’m not much of a breakfast person, so that’s saying something!
Plus, my kids love it and I can make fun shapes in the bread for them using cookie cutters. They get a kick out of it!
“Eggs in a Nest” goes by several other names like “Eggs in a Basket” and “Frog in a Pond”, so you may have heard of it by another name.
It’s so simple to make, so this really isn’t much of a recipe, but I’ve been dying to share my favorite breakfast with you all!
Ingredients
Directions
1. Cut out a shape in the center of the bread. You can use fun cookie cutter shapes like hearts or stars, or you can improvise and use a cup or glass. Do not discard the cut out bread – it will make for a delicious piece of buttery toast!
2. Heat 1/2 TBSP butter in a skillet over medium heat. Once melted, add both pieces of bread.
3. Crack your egg right into the hole in the bread. Cook until the egg white is solid.
4. Lift the egg and bread with your spatula and add the other 1/2 TBSP of butter to the skillet. Flip the bread to cook the other side of the egg. Be very careful not to break the yolk. Flip the circle of toast as well.
5. Cook the egg over easy – or to your preference. This side will cook faster than the first side, so watch it carefully.
6. Serve immediately.
I like to serve with a side of sausage and fruit!

This is my favorite and my daughter's too. We call it eggs in a basket.
Yum! My kids are going to love this!
What a fun breakfast!
Such a cute idea! Love it!
This would surely help us rise and shine!
My kids call them " Eggs in a Frame". They got the recipe from a kids cookbook and it is their FAVORITE breakfast food! I love the idea of scrambling the egg first so it can be eaten on the go. I am going to try it tomorrow!
My kids have really grown to love this breakfast too - though they like their egg runny so they can dip the toast in it, lol.
Love it!! Try it with potato bread, its to die for!! At least for me!:)
oh that sounds yummy I love potato bread (would love to be able to find it on a good sale though :/ )
Oh, I will have to try that!
My grandmother made egg in the nest for me all the time. She would always cut it up for me too - even as I got older. Great memories!
Aw, I love memories like that!
Loooove these! We always called them a "toe in the hole" but maybe we just got it mixed up w/ "toad" somewhere along the line. I also met someone who called it a "Kramer." I thought that was odd, but to each their own!
LOL!! Toe in a hole and Kramer - two new names for it!
Ive always called it Toad in a Hole..........so good in the mornings
That's so funny. That seems to be a common name for it, but I had never heard of it!
