Freebie Friday 12/12 – $25 Referral Bonus for 529 Plan

***This offer has expired.

Today’s Freebie Friday is going to be a little bit different! Your Freebie for today is $25!

The Ohio College Advantage 529 plan is giving out $25 sign up bonuses for friends and family. You don’t have to live in Ohio to take advantage of this offer! Anyone nationwide can open an account!

  • Earnings are tax-free if funds are used for college.
  • Contributions can be deducted from Ohio income tax for Ohio taxpayers – up to $2,000 annually per child.
  • Funds can be used at any college in the country and pay for tuition, room and board, or books.
  • Contributions can be made for as little as $25 at a time and can be made automatically through your bank account, payroll deduction or online.
  • CollegeAdvantage offers a wide variety of investment options managed by leading financial firms and you can also save with FDIC-insured bank products.
  • There are no enrollment fees, no maintenance fees and low administrative fees.
  • CollegeAdvantage offers flexibility allowing you to transfer funds to another child, withdraw funds at any time and change investment options.

Right now you can get a $25 bonus for opening a new account with a minimum $25 deposit! Just use referral code 2447522.

This is a limited time offer! You must open a new account before December 15, 2008.

You will receive a $25 credit to your account within 7-10 business days after your account is established. (I will also get $25 for referring you.)

Another bonus! You can refer your friends and family and you will both get an additional $25. If you open an account for one child, you can refer yourself to open a second account for another child to earn an extra $25 in each account.

If you don’t have kids then you can open an account for yourself! Or you can open an account for a grandchild, niece or nephew!

Feel free to email me if you have any questions!

  1. Oh good! I’m glad you’ll get another $25 in your child’s account too!

I really appreciate your quick response, and I’m enjoying your blog too, which I just discovered on Friday. Thanks for sharing all of your couponing wisdom!

  2. Sara,

Good news! I received a response from CS and they said:

“Your participation is not hinged upon our processing time. As long as the new account has been opened according to instructions for this promotion, [your account] will qualify for the referral bonus.”

Sounds like you should get the bonus after all! They also said to feel free to contact customer service if you have any other questions.

  3. Thanks for contacting customer service on my behalf, Stephanie. I thought I had looked through everything too, but it was the very last rule! That’s what I get for skimming. 🙂

  4. I apologize for not posting all the rules. I must have missed that rule when I was reading the terms & conditions. I have sent an email to customer service to see if you would still be eligible for the referral bonus and will let you know when I receive an answer.

  5. I set up accounts for both my kids with a $25 deposit each, but only THEN did I read the complete rules of the referral bonus program. Both the referring account and the new account have to be “in good order” for the bonuses to be applied. This means that the initial deposit has to clear by December 15th. Sadly, I don’t expect that even an electronic deposit would clear by tomorrow, so my kids’ accounts won’t get the $25 bonus.

Please don’t do this unless you really want to open an Ohio college savings account. I already have Oregon college savings accounts for my kids, so I wouldn’t have opened these accounts except for the bonus.

I wish this rule had been included in the blog posting…
