Keurig Single-Cup Home-Brewing System Review and Giveaway

I used to hate coffee.  Seriously.  I would not touch it with a ten-foot pole.  Then, my well-meaning husband introduced me to Starbucks a few months ago.  Um, big mistake!  Java Chip Frappuccinos and White Chocolate Mochas became a very expensive habit.  If it hadn’t been for the Starbucks Gift Cards I got free from Swagbucks (that were feeding my habit), I would have blown our budget big-time!

Since I’m new to the coffee-world, I don’t know how to make coffee.  So, even though we have an old coffee-maker, I won’t use it.  I’m not sure how much coffee I need and just don’t feel like messing with it, when I can just drive through Starbucks.

A couple of months ago Keurig sent me their single-cup home-brewing system to try out.  I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t be able to figure out how it works (most appliances tend to not agree with me…), but it was surprisingly easy to set up!

I only drink 1 cup of coffee a day, so making a whole pot is a waste for me.  To make a cup of coffee with the Keurig, all I have to do is turn it on, pop in a K-cup, and press “brew”.  The removable 48-ounce water reservoir only has to be refilled every few days.  Within just a couple minutes I have a yummy cup of coffee. No measuring, no waiting, no mess. Love it!

The K-Cups are what makes it awesome if you ask me.  If you like to change your coffee flavors regularly, it is so easy just to put in a different K-Cup.  So, I can make a cup of French Vanilla for me, a cup of Hazelnut for my husband, and a cup of decaf for my mom – all within just a few minutes.

Now, admittedly, the K-Cups are a bit expensive.  However, it is much cheaper than Starbucks!  If you buy the K-cups on Amazon in bulk you can get a pretty good price – under 50¢ a cup for many varieties.  There is also a reusable filter that you can buy if you prefer to use regular coffee grounds.  It will save you a little more money, but it’s also a little more hassle.

So, all in all, I have been very pleased with my Keurig.  The ease of use and quick brewing process have helped to curb my Starbucks habit.  Though, I do still enjoy the occasional Java Chip Frappuccino while I shop at Target. 😉

    I love the white hot chocolate at dunkin donuts and I just saw on Keurig’s site that they also offer it!! Oh, please pick me. The coffee I drink at home is also dunkin donuts and I add vanilla creamer but am very interested in trying the various flavors they offer. How great would it be to buy the packs with different flavors to try each one!

    I love French Vanilla. I was given a Tassimo single-serve to try out but gave it to my in-laws who needed smaller doses than the full pots we make here. I would still love to have a single-serve machine for all the fun blends it offers!

    I am such a fan of Starbucks, but sadly they don’t fit my budget 🙁
    Therefore, I have learned to make my own taste pretty good. I use different kinds of flavored creamers to make myself believe I am at a gourmet coffee shop :-). It’s fun to try new varieties of coffee and creamers, that’s why I would love the Keurig.     My favorite coffee that I love?…. hmmm not a big coffee drinker but I do love my husband that is obsessed with coffee!     My favorite from Starbucks actually isn’t coffee at all – Chai Tea Latte, but my hubby is a coffee drinker and it makes me nuts that he makes a whole pot, drinks 1 cup and leaves the rest in the machine until next time – ick. I think something like this would be better in our house.

    My favorite coffee is caramel. I put 1/2 cup or so of caramel sauce in the coffee pot then brew regular coffee. Top with whipped cream. Great for cold autumn days.

    I love to drink Community Coffee (Coffee & Chicory is the BEST!), with my husband in the mornings. Community Coffee is a local New Orleans company. The smell of chicory is the best thing to wake up to in the morning. Everyone should try it!

    My fave coffee is freshly roasted Green Brothers Italian Roast. It’s a dark coffee and full of flavor. I can not enjoy coffee that costs as much as it does so I compensate with making very good coffee at home for a fraction of the per cup price

    I Love my coffee in the morning! Actually sometimes my husband likes to put chocolate milk in his. I prefer flavored coffee like vanilla or hazelnut. I’m not even going to get started with the flavored creams. I have to cut somewhere.

    I don’t drink coffee but my husband does. He fell in love with the Keruig that was at our fertility doctor’s office. Every time we see a machine at the store, he googles at it. I tell him that he has to wait to get one because of the cost. He loves French Vanilla and I would so love to buy him one of these machines one day.     I love French Roast! My best friend got herself a bright red shiny Keurig and she has all these bragging rights now and it’s so not fair. She says she has to wear sunglasses to make her coffee because her wonderful new friend is so bright and shiny. I’m jealous. Totally jealous.     I, too, didn’t used to drink coffee – my then husband got me started, also!

    I still don’t drink coffee often, partly because I am a single mom with four kids. Sometimes, I’ll make a pot of decaf we can all share, but I rarely make anything else for myself, just because making one cup of coffee in my 12-cup coffee maker seems like a waste! In that respect, this one-cup maker would be perfect for me!

    My favorite flavor is one I ordered from Gevalia – Dark Chocolate Truffle! It is UNBELIEVABLE! I’m usually a “blond & sweet” coffee drinker, but this stuff is so smooth & sweet on it’s own, I think it tastes great with no cream, even no sweetener!     I am not a coffee drinker, but my husband is. His fav haunts are Starbucks (americano with an extra shot) or the strongest stuff at 7-11, which apparently is very good. When he does make a pot at home it’s left for me to clean & I can’t stand even the smell of coffee, let alone the grounds. The Keurig sounds like the perfect system for our house!

    I love, love, love coffee. And I hate to say it but I’m kind of a snob when it comes to my coffee. I am not a “coffee drink” person. I just want a cup of coffee with some half and half and sweetener, preferably Splenda. My very favorite coffees are Starbucks Pike Place blend as well as Foglifter by Seattle’s Best. I am always pleased with a good cup of 100% Columbian coffee as well.

    I absolutely love a great coffee or espresso drink and especially Choffy! My favorite COFFEE right now (since you asked specifically about coffee) is Chock full o’ Nuts.     I was never a coffee drinker either until well after college…ironically, with all the studying! From Starbucks it is a Skinny Vanilla Latte…from home it’s Dunkin’ Donuts with flavored creamer every morning!

    I love Barney’s Santa’s White Christmas! It’s spicy with a little creaminess too– YUM! I used to live in Waterbury, VT right in front of the Green Mountain Coffee plant (makes Keurig) and the smell from that place was HEAVENLY!

    I am not a huge coffee fan, but occasionally I do enjoy a cup 🙂 I couldn’t tell you what flavor is my favorite – I just know it’s NOT hazelnut 🙂 I think it’s something Vanilla-ish? So yeah, if I win this thing I might actually like drinking coffee 🙂 I love hot drinks in the winter but don’t like drinking hot chocolate every single day. This would be great!

    I wa cracking up, becasue as I was reading what you wrote, I felt like I was writing the story of my life. I too am not a coffee fan, but my husband is a habitual coffee drinker. I, sadly, have to grown to love Java Chip Fraps at STARBUCKS as well as NF Carmel Macchiato w/ sugar free vanilla syrup. But, being a teacher (in AZ – shhhh, we are the worst funded $ per student, makes me sick) I am trying to avoid goint to Starbucks at all costs. This week is teacher appreciation week and I got a few Starbucks gift cards. I was so excited. I also like Circle K – I get a cup of 1/2 cappucino and 1/2 regular. Then I put the vanilla flavoring. I just don’t see how people drink black coffee (my husband – blah….) My sister-in-law recently told me about the new Mocha Frappe at McDonalds. Oh Wow… they are delicious. They are less expensive than Starbucks, but goodness, I’m afraid to find out about their calories. I really wish she would have never mentioned them. Luckily I don’t live or often drive near a McDonalds, or else I’d be packing on the pounds.

    I’m not a fan of plain coffee so I love different flavors. My favorite would be vanilla but hazelnut comes in a close second.

    But the best flavor in the would would be cinnamon roll from the cappuccino makers at the gas stations. I didn’t think I would like it very much at first but now I can’t get enough of it!!

    I love Starbucks myself, but can’t afford the pricey coffee. I buy the coffee syrups & warm up milk to make mock”bucks” 🙂 It works for me. I love french vanilla lattes and mochas!!!! Ahhh coffee I heart you!

    My parents love this machine. Mom buys coffee at Best Buy with the coupons they mail out regularly. Now she gets a cup and a fresh one a that. Lots of times Dad would drink it all and she only drinks one cup and wouldn’t want to make another pot. And you can buy tea and hot chocolate for this machine as well. I’d love to have one for my house.

    Brewed – Starbucks is the best! I’m not a real sweet coffee kind of person – I prefer just cream (cappuccinos) but if I’m going to get anything with something sweet in it, Dutch Brothers is my fav! Their real Dutch chocolate beats any other chocolate I’ve had.

    I love the white chocolate mochas at Starbuck’s too!! My friend and I were just talking about this exact coffee maker at work and she was telling me how awesome it is. I think it would benefit my husband and I would absolutely benefit from this machine since I get up and have my coffee at 5:30 and he gets his…warm but tasting a little burnt at 8:00 in the morning.
