Many of the wine tags that I see aren’t actually hanging on the wine bottles themselves, but are hanging in the wine section. They look like they should be hanging around wine bottles, but they are just hanging up on a display on the end of the aisle. If you feel weird about taking the ones that are on the bottles, you could take these instead.

Certain states have different laws as well, some are that no purchase is necessary, no matter what the tag says .

Leslie,
Actually some of the wine tags do say ” save $2 on chicken when you purchase xyz wine.”
Then there are the wine tags that say “save $2 on chicken. no wine purchase necessary.”

Alcohol laws are tricky. I believe it is illegal to *require* the purchase of alcohol in order to receive something else. But the wine manufacturer clearly intends for the coupon to be the property of the wine purchaser. Otherwise they could just put up a tearpad, I’m sure that’s much easier.

Cheryl,
You are not being disagreeable, just asking an honest question!
I have honestly been on both sides of this arguement. I absolutely see your point of view. I also see it as the coupon distributor could easily have worded the coupon to require the purchase of the wine. They did not, so I see it as an invitation to use the coupon even though I do not purchase wine.

Not to be disagreeable but what happens when I go to buy that bottle of wine and the tag was taken by you who didn’t buy the wine. Doesn’t seem fair to me. I assume that the tag was for the customer who is buying the product that has the coupon on.
