  1. I have a question regarding couponing. I’m just starting out and only doing small batches of things that will last us just a couple of months, so we’re not doing a stockpile like they show on tv. I’m running into difficulties with some stores not accepting coupons.

    Here’s the scenario: I have 2 coupons that say buy 2 get $1 off. I buy 2 items at $1 and use 2 coupons which would make them both free. Store policy says that I can use 1 coupon per 1 item. The cashier, manager and store manager all say that I can only use 1 coupon because of what the coupon says.

    How do I go about handling this for the best outcome?

    • @Cody, The scenario you are describing happened the way you should expect. Lets just imagine that this product is salad dressing, the dressing cost’s you $1 each. Because of what the coupon says, you have to purchase 2 salad dressings and you would save $1 off between the two bottles. You have to purchase the number the coupon requires to save the total amount mentioned; but having duplicates of that coupon does not mean that each bottle gets an additional dollar off.
      EX:
      Salad Dressing +$1.00
      Salad Dressing +$1.00
      Total=$2.00
      + Coupon (Buy 2 save -$1.00)
      Total after coupon=$1.00

      In order for the items to come out FREE they would ideally have to be on sale/clearance for $.50ea.

      FREE Scenario Example:
      Salad Dressing +$.50
      Salad Dressing +$.50
      Total=$1.00
      + Coupon (Buy 2 save -$1.00)
      Total after coupon=FREE

      It is not a common occurrence to find the items you are regularly shopping for at a deal low enough to make them FREE…this is why the show is called EXTREME Couponing, they spend an exuberant amount of time researching and pricing. BUT-don’t be discouraged, you will from time to time find items that are steals, just not all the time. I like the show but it also frustrates me because I feel like some of those people are a little addicted to savings high and some are borderline hoarders! Couponing is still a very smart practice and you will pick it up more an more along the way…. Good luck, hope this helped.
