Summer Staycation Ideas for Affordable Family Fun
Summertime is quickly approaching, which means soon we get to enjoy warm, sunny days, plenty of ice cream, and of course, weeks off from school!
If you’re feeling anxious about the upcoming lengthy summer vacation, don’t fear it! You can have a lot of fun with your family without worrying about sky high entertainment costs. Planning a staycation is a great way to save while making summer vacation more enjoyable for all.
Here are some of my favorite staycation ideas for affordable family fun:
Invest in a Local Museum Membership
Museums are a great place to go to have fun while educating your kids. Learning doesn’t have to stop once school ends! Your kids will enjoy spending time exploring the different museum exhibits. Family memberships make it easy for you to keep summer entertainment costs low—plus, you can go to the museum as often as you’d like.
Tip: Look for local museums that offer dual membership. Sometimes you can get a family membership to two different museums at a lower, discounted membership rate. That makes for more fun for less money.
Scope Out Local Events and Festivals
There tend to be more events and festivals going on during the summer months. If your kids love spending time outdoors, this is a perfect staycation idea. You can plan to attend several events or festivals each month during the summer. It’ll give your family something fun to look forward to, and it’s a great excuse to get outside and take advantage of the warmer weather.
Take a Weekend Glamping Trip
If you’re not feeling the expense of a full weeklong vacation, why not plan a weekend getaway? This is an excellent way to still have a blast without the sky-high cost of a lengthy trip. You can check out nearby parks and campgrounds if you’re into camping, or you can look for glamping accommodations on Airbnb. It may just be a summer adventure your crew will love.
Schedule a Weekly Family Night
Having a set day each week to have fun, can quickly become a family tradition. It can be as simple as allowing the kids to pick and help make the Friday night family dinner, or a weekly movie night in with candy and popcorn, or even a family board game evening. You can switch up your activities, and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to be together and converse as a family.
These are some great ways to make your summertime plans more enjoyable. You don’t need to plan a long, faraway trip during summer vacation. Look for fun in your own backyard or neighborhood and create special memories with your kids. They will remember those moments fondly!
