Super Savings Saturday: 87% Savings at Kroger and Albertson’s
I went to Kroger and Albertson’s yesterday to do a bit of deal shopping and to take advantage of the Kellogg’s promo at Albertson’s. It was a huge success! This is a great week to shop, so grab your coupons and go!
I know it’s not yet Saturday, but some of these coupons expire tomorrow, so I wanted to give you time to plan your shopping trip if you’re thinking of going for these deals.
My first stop was Kroger:

***Okay, this is a mystery. I KNOW I picked out two deodorants and put them in my cart. My coupons beeped and I had no idea why but she pushed them through. I also couldn’t figure out why my total was $2 less than I expected. Now I realized that the deodorants were not rung up and I did not come home with them. I have NO idea what happened to them! So weird.
My Kroger will only double/triple three “like” coupons in a single transaction. Since I had 10 50¢/1 Crest toothpaste coupons to use, I needed to split my transactions to be able to use them all. Don’t worry, I didn’t clear the shelves, and my transactions took only seconds apiece so I did not hold up the line.
2nd Transaction
(3) Crest Toothpaste $1 ea.
– (3) 50¢/1 Crest Toothpaste or Liquid Gel Coupon (6/6 P&G or 6/27 RP) *exp 7/31

4th Transaction
(1) Crest Toothpaste $1
– (1) 50¢/1 Crest Toothpaste or Liquid Gel Coupon (6/6 P&G or 6/27 RP) *exp 7/31
= $0

Melyssa
I love the looks on the cashiers when I do these. 🙂
Stephanie
@Melyssa, Me too!!
Lucille
I tried to use coupons on this Albertsons deal and the checkout person said I wouldn’t get my $10 off my next visit coupon (got the instant $10 savings though). I didn’t argue with her, but I thought she was probably wrong. I have the same problem at Walgreens when I use coupons and have to spend a certain amount to get RRs. Any suggestions?
Rae
@Lucille, I used coupons and it worked just fine. I also did other transactions and rolled the $10 cat and it still worked. A lot of cashiers don’t really know what they are talking about when it comes to the catalina machine. I absolutely despise Walgreens and only go there once or twice per year now but there you should also be able to use coupons (as long as it’s not a cat from the same company though sometimes it can be from the same company just not same deal it depends) and still get the RR. If your catalina coupons don’t print, sometimes it is because the machine is either not on, out of paper, etc and the cashiers will make up their own reason. Just make sure no matter where you go that the little light is lit up and green.
Stephanie
@Lucille, Rae is right, many cashiers are just misinformed about how the coupons work. You should have received a coupon at the end of your transaction regardless of coupons used. If it’s not too far of a trip, it might be worth it to go back and explain to customer service what happened and hopefully get a $10 credit or something.
cassie
wow, $20 for all of that?! awesome shopping!
Stephanie
@cassie, Thanks, it was so much fun!
Kim
Went to Kroger this week & got 3 deoderants, 2 body washes, 2 shampoos, 1 toothpaste for 3.31. The clerk said WOW!! Then I told her about couponing 101 !!! Thanks!!
Stephanie
@Kim, Aww, thanks for sharing my site!! It is always fun to impress the cashiers isn’t it?!!
Julie @Kingdom Klipper
I was able to get 8 Gillette body washes at Kroger for an overage of $4!!
You did an awesome job shopping!

When you go into Albertson’s look for Kellogg’s back to school coupon book. My Albertson’s had them right at the front of the big cereal display as you walk into the store. Those coupons are good for free items. For instance, free milk when you buy two boxes of nutrigrain bars. $2 off any fresh fruit when you buy any 2 boxes of cereal. and so on…so while you are buying these items in the keebler/kelloggs sale you are able to get all kinds of freebies. I got free coffee, organic milk, fruit, school supplies, bread, etc. Literally got 15 bags of groceries for about $50 yesterday!
Stephanie
@christi, Ooohhhhh, thanks for the heads up!!
Rae
Well I am very happy with my day. I went to Albertsons and got some crackers and poptarts today. I didn’t want to do more than one transaction by myself with the boys but I’ll got back tomorrow when my husband is off and do 2 more transactions (1 more of the cat deal one then 1 to use the cat from that). And they were passing out free (ice cold) large cans of Snapple outside which was perfect for this too hot weather!
At Kroger I spend $30 and change which was 75% savings (though I did use a $5 cat) and that got me 4 packs of pampers, 3 bottles of bodywash (2 Old Spice, one Ivory, gillette was out 🙁 ), 4 boxes of cereal, 2 packs of nut clusters ($1.89), 2 packs of those yellow tomatoes, 2 deodorants, 3 toothpastes, 3 tubs of buttery spread, 4 boxes of oatmeal (they had the blueberry muffin kind I’ve heard so much about), 2 yogurts, gallon of milk, 2 Clif bars, flexible cable grilling skewers, a bag of freezer bags and 2 packs of cheese slices 😀
Stephanie
@Rae, Wow, you did awesome!! How cool that Albies was passing out Snapple!!
Kareah
Hey, just wondering how you got the free bread & pb coupon and the free dressing coupon?!
Thanks!
Stephanie
@Kareah, The free dressing, bread and peanut butter is part of a promotion they are running this week. Buy select items and get select items free. All of those deals are listed on this week’s albertson’s matchup post here: https://www.couponing101.com/2010/07/albertsons-deals-728-83.html
m
at tom thumb there’s a kelloggs display that have coupons…take those to Albertsons for even more savings!
Stephanie
@m, Oooh, thanks for the tip!!
natalie
Thanks for the heads up on the Albertsons deals! I went totally out of my way to shop there, and it was worth it. I got 7 Mini Wheats, 8 Froot Loops, 2 Corn Flakes, 1 Rice Krispies, 4 Pop Tarts, 7 Nutri-Grain bars, and 1 Flatbread crackers, 5 lb. whole wheat flour, 5 lb. bread flour, and 2 cartons of Silk all for under $25. That’s about 74 cents per item!
Stephanie
@natalie, Woot!! You did great!!!
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Great trip! Maybe the deodorants fell out of your cart…that’s happened to me before at CVS! I really thought I was going crazy when I tried to checkout and several things were missing :-).
Stephanie
@Corrie @ “Cents”able Momma, That’s what I’m thinking might have happened…or maybe they were put on the checkout belt but got pushed off to the side or something. Or maybe my munchkins did something with them when I wasn’t looking, lol.
wylene
You did great! I went to Kroger today and picked up some of the free toothpaste and Bestlife too.
Stephanie
@wylene, I have never tried that butter, I hope it’s good considering I got 4 tubs of it! lol
wylene
@Stephanie, Haha yeah, I got 6 tubs! I looked at the expiration date though and it’s good for a year, so it will definitely last me. I tried the Olive Oil variety on French bread last night and it was pretty good.
Rachel
I strive to be able to do that… and I miss Albies, we don’t have them in NJ, but I’m moving to CO soon so I get my Albies back yay!
Stephanie
@Rachel, I don’t visit Albies that often, but if they run more sales like these I will certainly be visiting there more!
Melyssa
This is awesome. I will be duplicating this trip so I can stock up!
Stephanie
@Melyssa, Good luck with your shopping!!
Brandy
I loved the albies deal today too! I got 9 boxes of cereal and 1 box of crackers for $15.50 after coupons and got $10 oyno back. Then I got
1 pkg of huggies pull ups, 2 goldfish, bread, jif, and smuckers for $3 after coupons and using the $10 oyno. So $18 for all of that! What a deal!
Stephanie
@Brandy, You did awesome!! That is a ton of stuff for just $18!
