Walgreens: Can You Stack a Manufacturer’s Coupon with an IVC?

Walgreens issues a monthly coupon booklet that contains store coupons called Instant Value Coupons (IVCs). Walgreen’s will allow you to combine these with manufacturer coupons.

Unfortunately, these coupons have the words “manufacturer coupon” on them, even though they are store coupons. This can be very confusing for cashiers and customers alike, since you are only supposed to use one manufacturer coupon per item.

Well, a couple of weeks ago, Walgreens issued a weekly ad that outlined a deal combining a manufacturer coupon and an IVC! This is great because it clearly shows that combining the two coupons is acceptable at Walgreens.

I’ve heard from many people who had trouble stacking these two coupons, so hopefully this is a step toward resolving those issues!

For more information about shopping at Walgreens, read Walgreens 101 and the Walgreens Official Coupon Policy.

  • Amy, you CAN use 2 coupons on one item at Walgreens as long as 1 is a store cpn and 1 is a manufacturer's cpn. That's what "stacking" means. IVC's are store coupons, as well as in-ad coupons. They MAY be stacked with manufacturer coupons on one item.

  • 3 or 4 days ago, I had a clerk tell me that I could not use more coupons than items I was purchasing. I added a .33 piece of candy (had nothing to do with the coupon) and now I had 2 coupons related to 1st item and no coupons related to 2nd item, but I had 2 items so their system excepted the stacked coupons. I added the piece of candy at his suggestion so both coupons would be accepted.

  • Here is the exact wording from the wags coupon policy on their website regarding multiple coupons:

....When purchasing a single item, Walgreens accepts one manufacturer coupon and applicable Walgreens coupon(s) for the purchase of a single item, unless prohibited by either coupon offer.
The coupon amount must be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied. (For example, a $5.00 coupon for a $4.99 item will result in a $4.99 coupon value).
When purchasing multiple items, Walgreens accepts multiple identical coupons for multiple qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers, unless a limit is specified. Management reserves the right to limit the quantity of items purchased.

  • Thanks for this info. I know Walgreens generally does not allow more coupons than items you are buying - do these Instant Value Coupons (and even the weekly ad coupons) count? For example if the cottenelle above was on sale, and I was purchasing only one and I had no other items in my purchase, could I use an IVC (or in-ad coupon) and a manufacturers? Or must I buy two items to use two coupons? This always trips me up.

  • Walgreens policy says that you can only use one coupon per item so that means you cannot stack coupons even itf its a store and manufacture coupon. Have you found this to be different?
