As you can tell after reading my Walgreens 101 Guide, it can be kind of tricky to navigate the Walgreens savings and coupons system. To help out with that, the Walgreens official coupon policy is available online and is also available by request in-store!
Here are some of the main points from the coupon policy that will answer some of your most frequently asked questions:
General Coupon Policy
No expired coupons, and coupons expire at 11:59pm local time on the date printed on the coupon.
No competitor coupons. (This has become quite rare, so hopefully they get on board with accepting competitor coupons soon!)
The number of manufacturer coupons, including Register Rewards manufacturer coupons, may not exceed the number of items in the transaction. The total value of the coupons may not exceed the value of the transaction. This means, no matter how clever you get with coupons, Walgreens will not pay you if your coupons add up to a negative balance owed.
Sales tax must be paid, if required by state law.
Any coupon offer not covered in these guidelines will be accepted at the discretion of Walgreens management.
Does Walgreens Accept Manufacturer Coupons for Items On Sale?
Yes, Walgreens will accept manufacturer coupons for an item that is on sale.
Multiple Coupons
Walgreens accepts one manufacturer coupon and any applicable Walgreens coupon(s) for the purchase of a single item, unless prohibited by either coupon offer. (Make sure you read your coupons!)
When purchasing multiple items, Walgreens accepts multiple identical coupons for multiple qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers, unless a limit is specified. Management reserves the right to limit the quantity of items purchased.
Buy One, Get One Free Coupons
When items are featured in a Buy 1 Get 1 Free promotion, at least one product needs to be purchased. A maximum of one BOGO coupon is permitted per two qualifying items in a BOGO offer.
Internet/Print-at-Home Coupons
No “free product” internet coupons.
Total Store Offer/Coupons
Total store offers (i.e., 20% off your whole purchase, Seniors Day, Friends & Family, Military Day, etc.) cannot be combined with “Buy One, Get One Free”, “Buy One, Get One 50% Off”, or “Buy 2, Get 3rd Free” promotions.
Register Rewards Coupons
Register Rewards/Savings Rewards will only print for in-stock merchandise during the promotional period.
Register Rewards/Savings Rewards can only be earned for eligible items. No substitutions are permitted.
There is a limit of one Register Rewards/Savings Rewards coupon per offer per customer per transaction.
Customers redeeming a Register Rewards/Savings Rewards against the same offer may not receive another Register Rewards/Savings Rewards coupon.
Register Rewards/Savings Rewards shall be forfeited if the qualifying merchandise is returned.
You can read the full coupon policy here. You may want to print a copy to have on hand in case you run into issues at Walgreens!
I went to purchase 2 bags of M &Ms i had a coupon for buy 2 get 1.00 off and in your IVC booklet it stated the same thing. Why couldn't these two be used together?
On the buy one get one free promotion. Can I use two coupons one on the item I buy and one on the free item?
Hi Steve! Unfortunately not, BOGO promotions usually require at least two items per coupon o r transaction so that one is actually paid for. It couldn't hurt to ask and see if you get lucky with a nice manager though...
I went to my local Walgreens and I wanted to use a printed coupon ( I was still paying for my product, coupon was only .50c) and the cashier told me they do not take printed coupons even too it was manufactured coupon.
My local walgreens says they accept mobile cigarette coupons but my store is not in list on coupon site. How do I get it added?
I went my usual Walgreens two separate nights and was told by the team leads that they had to follow what the coupon said word for word and the picture. Like a $2/1 multi pack toothpaste wouldn't work on a single tube.
I've read the policy and it doesn't state that anywhere.
Hi Monique! It is true that if the coupon is for two products, then you must purchase two products in order to use it. Make sure to take a look at the fine print as well, that usually helps clarify. You can learn more about how to read your coupons right here: https://www.couponing101.com/anatomy-of-a-coupon-how-to-read-coupons/
Are coupons in the monthly booklet manufacturer or store coupons or do they vary? If they are store coupons can they be combined with a manufacturer coupons when the manufacturer coupon says that only one coupon may be used per transaction?
Do I need to have a reward card with Walgreens before I go couponing there?
Hi Elpina! You'll still be able to use manufacturer coupons and the paper coupons in the Walgreens Weekly Ad, but you'll need a Walgreens Rewards account in order to access their digital coupons. Read more about that here: https://www.couponing101.com/walgreens-101/
On a recent visit to Walgreens I selected four products for which I had four manufacture coupons printed from the computer. I was told at this Walgreens that I could only use one printed coupon because they had the same number in the upper right hand corner. Is this a Walgreens policy, I was never told this before.
Hi Patricia - one of two things probably happened:
1) the cashier didn't know the official policy, which states that "Walgreens accepts multiple coupons for multiple qualifying items, as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers, unless a limit is specified on the coupon."
2) the manufacturer specified a limit such as one per household or one per transaction, which would make it only allowed to scan and apply one time (cashier would not be able to override this without the store losing money). this would be noted in the fine print of the coupon.
If you check the fine print and it doesn't have any such limits, you can always (nicely) ask to speak to a manager, who might be more familiar with the coupon policy!
is there a limit on how many coupons i can use? like im thinking of buying 10 laundry soap and i have 10 coupons can i use them all at once?
Technically you should be able to use all of them, but Walgreens does say that it "reserves the right to limit quantities to customers and employees" so I would just go ahead and try to use them. And be very nice to the manager if they get involved! :)
I went today . I had 2 tide pods 2 tide liquid which there is a buy 3 get 1 free promo right now and I also had 4 tide simply which is on sale also totally different time also tonally different. Promotion. I was told I could not get both of these I could only get 1 sale or the other because you can only get 1 promotion - sale on these items because they were both tides. 2 totally different sales
So what's up with that. The dang store is full of sales . Was she right or wrong. I say wrong
Hi Regina! If there was one promotion going on for all Tide products, then the store does have the right to restrict it to one use per transaction. However, there's nothing stopping you from coming back the next day to use it again on 4 more products! :)
I'm new to this and was wondering when stacking coupons I noticed that in store coupons say "not valid with any other offer." Does that mean I can't stack coupon with manufacture coupon? Or it just means I can't use another in store coupon?
It just means you can't use another store coupon on top of it. Walgreen's allows you to use 1 manufacturer coupon and 1 Walgreens store coupon per item.
