Ours always came out this way too, so we came up with a healthier version of this that our kids can modify for their tastes and doesn't have the gummy texture to it - and when you get the items with couponing it is a great deal!
1lb meat
1 box shells and cheese (we use Velveeta)
1 jar salsa
Cook and drain the meat first. Cook the shells and cheese according to the directions. Mix meat, pasta, and salsa together! Instant Hamburger Helper Ole we call it! Substitute the salsa with other things for different flavors and they are healthier and don't have that gummy issue!
My Schuncks is running a 10 for $10 hamburger helper sale so if you pair that with the 80 cent coupon it makes them 92 cents each. Unless the coupon is only for use at Walmart. I don't have the coupon so can't tell if it's a store coupon or manufacturers.
I see the Hamburger Helper on the Walmart list. Mine always turns out gummy -- meaning the pasta. Is there a trick to cooking this (other than what's on the box) that someone could share?
